Andrew Grant welcomes new British citizens

On behalf of the Lord Lieutenant, Andrew Grant presided as Deputy Lieutenant at last week's Citizenship Ceremony at County Hall.

Pictured is Andrew Grant, American John O'Brian who is a school teacher, teaching ‘English' at a local school!, John’s family and Peter Tomlinson, Vice Chairman of Worcestershire County Council.

The ceremony saw 26 successful applicants from around the world sworn in.

Beginning with a welcoming speech, the applicants then swear or affirm the oath of allegiance to Her Majesty the Queen and give a pledge of loyalty to the United Kingdom before being presented with their citizenship certificates. The presentation of the certificate marks the point at which British citizenship is conferred.

Commenting on the event Andrew Grant said:

"It was a great privilege to witness these new British Citizen receive their certificate.  I am amazed by their great work ethic and are an example to us all. One young man is already giving back to the community as a voluntary policeman in Malvern."
