Britain’s Most Northerly Vineyard Wins Silver!

On a warm summer’s evening what’s nicer than a refreshing glass of wine? We now don’t have to look very far to find an award winning bottle of English wine as it’s produced very close to home.

Halfpenny Green Wine Estate has become the most northerly vineyard in Britain to secure silver at the 2017 International Wine Challenge’s Cellar Door Awards.

The estate is one of only nine in the country to win a Cellar Door award, which is decided by the IWC and Visit England.

Silver medals were awarded to just two other vineyards.

Halfpenny Green Wine Estate, located in the rolling hills of South Staffordshire, has been winning awards for its wine over 20 years and is one of the most recognised vineyards in the UK.

Farmer Martin Vickers had the vision for the vineyard 30 years ago. He wanted to plant a vineyard that would one day match continental sites.

Today, 30 acres of vines are managed by Martin and produce award-winning wines crafted by his son Clive. It is one of the largest vineyards in the country with a shop, restaurant deli and tea room it offers a great day out for visitors.

Clive Vickers, said: "Our aim is to show our guests how wines can be made in England to an incredibly high standard, and to champion English wine in general, which is competing fiercely on the international scene.”
