Christmas Comes to Henley

Henley-in-Arden’s Christmas Tree Festival and the switch on of the Christmas lights marks the start of the festive season in the town and, if you fancy a walk Knowle and Dorridge Lions have their annual charity walk at Baddesley House.

Henley- in-Arden Christmas Tree Festival takes place at St. John’s Church, Henley in Arden High Street from 2nd – 10th December.   Viewing is free and everyone is welcome.  More than 20 trees have been adopted and groups of people from all over town have met up and used their creative talents to decorate the trees.

The opening day of the Christmas Tree Festival is combined with the town’s carol service, at 5.00pm and Christmas Market.  The switch on of the Beaudesert and Henley Christmas Lights takes place at 5.30pm and festive mulled wine and mince pies will be on offer.

Every year for 25 years Knowle & Dorridge Lions have organised their charity walks between Christmas and New Year, this year’s will be on Wednesday 27th December.  Last year over 2500 walkers, many with their dogs, donated almost £14,000 and followed one of the signposted trails. This year there are 4 routes - a mini walk over only 1.4 miles around the National Trust grounds suitable for all ages, as well as ones of 3.9 and 5.4 miles, and a real challenge of 10.7 miles for those who arrive early. Registration is from 08:30 for those who want to do a morning walk and return home for lunch. After your walk you can visit Baddesley House and Gardens free and enjoy a mince pie and mulled wine with the Lions.

Beneficiaries of this year’s Festive Walk are the new Breast Cancer Haven in Solihull and Solihull & Birmingham Headway, whilst the Lions will retain half of all funds raised for local determined causes.
