Hopfest

Now in its 7th consecutive year this family friendly music festival’s theme for this June is “The Sixties – the Summer of Love Revisited”.  So if you’re longing to “wear some flowers in your hair” here’s what’s on offer.

Bewdley’s family friendly music festival “Hopfest” is opening its doors, for the 7th year running this June.

As this year marks the 50th anniversary of the release of the Beatles’ album Sgt. Pepper and other notable musical landmarks the festival has chosen as its theme “The Sixties – the Summer of Love Revisited” and the organisers are asking all of the acts to include a sixties song in their set.The festival will take place on Friday, June 16, and Saturday, June 17, at Hopley's Camping Site, in Cleobury Road.

The event has grown every year and now has four stages featuring live music, spoken word performances, workshops and children’s activities.

Peter Barnett, one of the organisers, said "The concept of Hopfest from the first incarnation in 2011 has been to showcase the remarkable wealth of talent that exists in the local area and to provide opportunities for young musicians to perform on the same stages as the more established acts.”

“Last year, through Bewdley Youth Festival we had over 80 young people from Wyre Forest and across Worcestershire performing at the festival as solo artists, members of bands or as part of the world drumming orchestra that was assembled with the Bewdley School and Sixth Form Centre.“

"This year will be no exception and our line-up includes tremendous acts such as Sunjay, Arcadia Roots, the Humdrum Express, the return of the Mothership and a special Beatles feature - the Magical History Tour. “

"And, we are looking forward to a special collaboration between the local jazz group Matahari and the Bewdley School featuring some very talented young musicians and singers with some spine tingling music."
