Let there be Light!

Stratford-upon-Avon’s Christmas lights’ display is considered to be one of the finest in the United Kingdom with visitors from all over Britain coming to the town to see them.

The Christmas lights will be turned on Thursday 23th November 2017.

The lights have been managed by The The Stratford-upon-Avon Christmas Lights Company Ltd since 2001, an independent company of non-fee charging volunteers who work solely for the town and its people and are responsible for all fund-raising, marketing, engineering and planning.   The lights are funded by generous grants from the Town Trust and Town Council and donations from businesses, residents and the general public.

An intrinsic part of the Stratford-upon-Avon Christmas Festival, they enhance the town’s late night shopping events and Christmas markets making the town a magical place to be and make a major contribution to the town’s economy which benefits both businesses and townspeople alike.

The Switch-On Ceremony commences outside the Town Hall at 4pm with carols lead by the Bishopton School Choir, accompanied by musicians from King Edward VI School.  The lights will be switched on by the Mayor and Consort from the Balcony at 4.30pm.

After the lights are switched on the Major will take a tour of the Christmas Market in Bridge Street and judge the best dressed stall competition.  Father Christmas is also in town!  He’ll be collecting his post and then retire to his grotto inside the Town Hall to greet the children.
