A well-known German festival is coming to Worcester for the first time this October.  Originating in Munich in the early 19th century it has an international following.

Worcester Oktoberfest will take place for the first time in Worcester, creating a Bavarian weekend in October offering a host of German drinks, entertainment and food.

Oktoberfest began in 1810 to celebrate the marriage of Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese of Sace-Hildburghausen.  The royal newlyweds deemed their wedding party such a success that they decided to repeat it every year.  So Oktoberfest has been celebrated in Munich every autumn since then.  It has become the world’s largest beer and folk festival and now has an international following.  This year 5.9 million people descended on the city.

Now other cities are hosting Oktoberfest style celebrations based on the Munich event.

Worcester Oktoberfest is being held on 20th and 21st October at Worcester Racecourse.  You will be able to top up your stein and be entertained Bavarian style with traditional folk music and Oompah bands.  There’ll also be traditional food available.

It is an 18 Plus event.
