The Wonderful County of Herefordshire

With school holidays and, hopefully, long sunny days you may want to enjoy a day out in this wonderful county. There is so much on offer! With jazz concerts, jousting, guided bat walk, a Gruffalo Trail and one of the best collection of owls in Europe we believe there’s something that will appeal to everyone!

Why not visit Hereford Cathedral, home to the Hereford Mappa Mundi? From 21st July – 25th August  there are Friday afternoon jazz sessions, beginning at 1, in the Chapter House Garden. At Hope under Dinmore near Leominster is the 15th century fortified manor, Hampton Court Castle with its Victorian walled gardens and famous maze. During August, on Wednesdays and Thursdays, there are “exotic bird and animal encounters” on offer and the Bank Holiday weekend there’s jousting. For more information please click here.

Boasting one of the best collections of owls in Europe, the Small Breeds Farm Park and Owl Centre have been welcoming visitors for 25 years. Based at Kington, they’re open every day come rain or shine. For more information please click here.

With views of the Malvern Hills and the Black Mountains , Queenswood is a fragment of a vast ancient wood that once stretched to the Welsh borders and beyond. The arboretum now covers 47 acres and has rare and exotic trees from all over the world. Croft Castle sits deep in the heart of the Herefordshire countryside at Yarpole, Near Leominster. There’s a chance to camp underneath the stars at the castle on the 12th August complete with guided bat walk, stories around the camp fire and lessons in camp survival techniques.
