Everything you need to know about Hereford

About the area

Technically a city thanks to its handsome cathedral, which is home to famous Mappa Mundi, the oldest medieval map of the world still in existence, Hereford has a population that hovers around just 60,000.

Nestling in the Wye valley and close to the Welsh border and the beautiful Black Mountains it’s a little remote for commuters – Cardiff and Birmingham are both around a 90 minute drive away – so you can expect a real sense of community.

Property in Hereford

Handsome Georgian properties around the cathedral area are popular, as are those to the east end of town with great schools and plenty of large Victorian and Edwardian family homes and Hampton Park. There are plenty of picture postcard villages nearby and if you’re looking for a more rural escape it’s a downsizers dream. Possibly some nice surprises price-wise too – Hereford’s relatively remote location means more bricks for your buck!

Things to see and do

Cider-drinkers and meat-eaters are in for a treat – cider production and Hereford cattle are the pride and joy here, and hip artisan burger joints like The Beefy Boys and Burger Shop (recommended by food critic Jay Rayner, no less) and cider houses are as everyday as coffee shops.

Famous faces either born or growing up in Hereford include Ellie Goulding, Kate Humble, Monty Don and Muppet co-creator Frank Oz!

Properties you'll love in Hereford

Why I think you'll love this location

I've been working in the business since I was 19 and can only say I have a passion for property. My wife and I have just finished refurbishing our own little cottage in Ludlow so I can especially relate to any of our clients who are tackling a ‘project’! We love living and working in Herefordshire where the culture and countryside have so much to offer - when I’m not at work, my wife and I love National Trust properties and walking our dogs Harvey the daschund and Pebble the shih tzu, and eating our way around town.
