A glamping getaway in Pershore
Get a taste of country style - Live, laugh, lodge!
Imagine luxuriating in the bubbles of your private hot tub, looking at a sky full of stars, a glass of fizz in hand and the fire pit crackling away across the decking. Your safari tent complete with fully equipped kitchen and bathroom, central heating, zebra-print soft furnishings and even a hideaway den for the kids is right behind you. Somewhere in the distance you can hear the animals...you’re in heaven. Just one thing though, those animals are likely to be cows and sheep, not lions or giraffes, because this little piece of paradise is in Pershore, Worcestershire!
This slice of rural bliss is the bright idea of the Richard and Matthew Jaques, now over a year into the process of creating a holiday retreat perfect for families and nature lovers. The landscape, already with 25 acres of land to roam and a brook, should have orchards, a lake for fishing and kayaking, and a wealth of wildlife. There are exciting ideas for nature and cycle trails and birdwatching. “Funding from the Worcester Wildlife Trust is allowing us to realise some of our projects and it would be great if one day we can be a sort of educational classroom for our wildlife habitat”, Richard hopes. The lodges are on the doorstep of pretty Pershore, and ideally placed for days out in Worcestershire and the Cotswolds.
In pride of place already are the first lodges – interior-designed, cosy, contemporary homes-from-home with beautiful furnishings and appliances, excellent wifi, drive-up parking and uninterrupted countryside views. “The beauty of the lodges is that you can site them where you probably wouldn’t be able to build a house, making the most of the unspoilt landscape”, says Richard. Proof of their charm is that Richard and Matthew’s mum and dad are already keen to move out of their big farmhouse on the site and into a new luxury lodge of their own on the site. Ultimately, some of the planned new lodges should also be available to purchase.
At the moment, holiday breaks are available from as little as two nights, but if you love staying there so much you simply don’t want to leave – well, maybe you don’t have to. Aware of the shortage of quality fixed-term let properties Richard and Matthew are making some of the lodges available for short-term rental, already proving to be a big success. Ideal for anyone from artists or writers looking for a peaceful escape, business contractors wanting to retreat to somewhere more relaxing than a hotel at the end of the day, or homeowners looking for a stop-gap between sale and purchase.
“The positive feedback has been fantastic, especially as we’re still in the relatively early days of putting all our ideas into action” says Richard.
